Building an AI Studio and Designing the Future of Patient Experience

The Challenge

VSP Vision, a global leader in vision care, recognized the growing potential of AI to transform both its internal operations and patient experiences. However, like many large enterprises, AI innovation was fragmented and locked down—teams couldn’t easily access tools or experiment with integrating AI into their workflows and products.

VSP needed a partner to help centralize AI efforts, uncover strategic use cases, and develop an actionable roadmap for scalable implementation—while also proving AI’s tangible impact through a live pilot project.

Our Approach

Over 18 months, we partnered with VSP to define, design, and activate an internal AI Studio—a centralized hub that would enable teams across product, marketing, and operations to safely test, validate, and deploy AI solutions.

We conducted stakeholder workshops, cross-departmental interviews, and landscape analyses to identify high-impact opportunities for automation, personalization, and patient engagement. Alongside this, we delivered an end-to-end AI-powered product prototype to demonstrate what was possible when strategy met execution.

What We Did

AI Consulting & Strategy: Developed a long-term AI roadmap to guide capability building, governance, and innovation.

AI Studio Design: Created a framework for centralized experimentation—unlocking access to AI tools previously restricted by compliance and security limitations.
Product Discovery & Prototyping: Designed and validated an AI-powered patient-facing “Exam Companion”, built to enhance the in-office experience and help patients better understand their eye health.
UX Design for AI Products: Delivered a scalable design system and experience framework for future AI-enabled VSP products.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnered with internal engineering, data science, and compliance teams to align innovation with enterprise constraints.

Results & Impact

The pilot Exam Companion prototype validated AI’s measurable business impact while laying the foundation for broader adoption across VSP’s ecosystem:

3% increase in material selection
5% lift in lens enhancement sales
1% improvement in appointment scheduling conversions

More importantly, VSP’s new AI Studio framework transformed how teams approach innovation—shifting from restricted experimentation to a scalable, governance-driven model that unlocks creativity and efficiency across the organization.
